The air inside your home can be dirtier than the air outside
Fumes from paints, glues and finishes, plus dust and moisture, build up indoors, especially in a well-sealed Fargo home in winter. A green remodel tackles all of it, which matters most for kids, older family members and anyone with allergies or asthma.
Indoor levels of some pollutants can be 2 to 5 times higher than outdoor levels. — U.S. EPA

Green remodeling FAQ
Questions about green remodeling in Fargo-Moorhead
Have one we didn't answer? Ask it at your free consult.
What is a Certified Green Professional?
Certified Green Professional (CGP) is a designation from the National Association of Home Builders. It recognizes remodelers and builders trained in energy-efficient, healthy and resource-efficient building. The Home Authority, Inc. is a CGP remodeler serving Fargo-Moorhead.
What is green remodeling?
Green remodeling means designing and building with healthier indoor air, lower energy and water use, and less waste in mind. It uses low-VOC finishes, efficient windows, insulation and fixtures, and reuses what's still solid, without changing the style you want.
Does green remodeling cost more?
Many green choices, like low-VOC paint, cost about the same as standard options. Others, like added insulation or better windows, can cost more up front and pay you back in comfort and lower energy use. Every choice is in your one fixed price, so you decide with the full picture.
How does a green remodel improve indoor air quality?
The EPA reports that indoor levels of some pollutants can be 2 to 5 times higher than outdoor levels. We use low-VOC and GREENGUARD-certified products where available, plan fresh-air ventilation, control moisture and keep dust contained during construction.
What do low-VOC and GREENGUARD mean?
VOCs are volatile organic compounds, the fumes that come off many paints, glues and finishes. Low-VOC products release far less of them. GREENGUARD Certification from UL tests products like flooring, cabinets and finishes for low chemical emissions.
Can you make my existing Fargo home more energy efficient?
Yes. When we open walls, basements or attics during a remodel, we can add air sealing and insulation, and design in energy-efficient windows, entry doors, lighting and appliances. That's the easiest time to make a home warmer and more efficient.
Can I go green on a small project like a bathroom?
Yes. A bathroom is a great place to start, with low-VOC finishes, WaterSense® fixtures, LED lighting and a properly sized exhaust fan to control moisture.
Will green materials change the look of my home?
No. Green materials come in the same colors, woods and styles as standard ones. Studio A designs your space to look the way you want, with healthier and more efficient choices behind it.
Does a green remodel add resale value?
Energy-efficient, healthy-home features are a selling point for many buyers, and durable materials keep a home looking good longer. Lower energy use and maintenance help while you live there, too.
Are there rebates for energy-efficient upgrades?
Some local utilities offer rebates for efficiency upgrades, and programs change often. Ask at your consult and we'll point you to what's current for your home.
What areas do you serve?
Fargo, West Fargo, Moorhead, Dilworth, Horace, Detroit Lakes and the Minnesota Lakes Area.
