The project story

How this project came together

  1. 1

    The challenge

The kitchen still had worn wood cabinets, dated checkerboard tile, a faded tile floor and coil-top range, and the rest of the house needed the same kind of care. The homeowners wanted to bring the whole home up to date while keeping the character that comes with an older house.

  2. 2

    What we did

Studio A designed a kitchen that mixes sage-green lower cabinets, white uppers and warm wood glass-front cabinets, with a wood-wrapped range hood and a handmade-look tile backsplash. We added light countertops, an undermount sink with a matte black faucet, stainless appliances and a dark tile floor. Throughout the main rooms, the wood floors were brought back to a rich finish under soft gray walls, with a sliding barn door and a beamed ceiling adding character. The bathroom got a wood vanity with a marble-look top, a glass-walled tile shower and matte black fixtures, including a handheld shower head.

  3. 3

    The result

A historic home that feels cared-for in every room, with a kitchen and bath built for today and the original charm still front and center.
